Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

The motor didn't sound smooth, now and then I could see the tailpipe load up rich. You need to verify all your sensor grds and maybe double check your timing.

And ditch the fawkin auto. They're not worth dick unless you pour your savings into them, and even at that, it's not worth it unless you're racing. Put a reliable manual trans in it and keep the gypsy shifting auto as a spare or something.

Good work on the 60 yoke though. :thefinger:

Here is a picture for proof it wheels...

Took the trans out, put in my other one. Hope it shifts better than the other one.
Broke the trans tailshaft housing too. I done a good one on it.

Hell yeah! Who needs 4wd when you've got a v8! haha

Damn now im itchin to go back in the shop and finish my v8 swap

Awesome. Just awesome

Its a whole different animal now. Cant wait to get it really tuned in!!

As I kinda wrote last night, I pulled the trans and found some more damage. I broke the trans adaptor where it mounts to the tranny mont/crossmember.

Broke shifter linkage

To fix the front for now, I am gonna put my 1330 yoke on and get a conversion joint, grind some more and limit it more just in case. I am pretty sure the broken tranny mount caused the tranny to lift, which put the joint in bind and broke the yoke.

Hope to have it ready to wheel by next week.

T case support made, added to the original tranny cross

Installed

I also made a new shifter linkage, better than the busted up one for sure! I made it out of 1/2" thick aluminum.

looks good. now go break something else :D

I'll do my best lol

Here are my newly modified yokes. I counter bored the pinion nut holes 1/4" deeper and put spacers under the yoke when installed to gain the clearance i need. I am gonna run a 1330 yoke on my 60 (had it) and a 1310 yoke on the 205 with a conversion joint at the axle for now. If I have no issues I may buy another 1310 yoke. Might just step up to 1350 too, who knows....

Wow, glad to hear it made it on the trail again! Though it sucks to hear things are giving you troubles. Guess you should have stuck with that 44 and other 'light dudty' stuff after all :thefinger:

ide like to think of the 44 of more of a medium duty and the 35 as the light duty. but that's just me

Lol, your probably right. The rig worked great before, should have just made a new one.

I agree, that is why I went to the heavy duty, mi driving style warranted it.

Pulled codes, checked timing on the ranger. Only codes I got were for the VSS that I dont have installed and low voltage to my MAF. Base timing was set at 10, but I bumped it up to 13. I turned the fuel pressure back down to 39psi since it seemed rich. I put new plugs in too.

Seems like it runs fine, no bucking so far. Maybe I need a new maf if I still have problems.

The tranny pump whines, but seems to hold first just fine. Did a whole bunch of hole shots in the road and it took right off and reved up pretty good. Guess we will see next time out how it does.

I also cut my gate out from 1st to 3rd, and angled the others so I can go reverse to drive and drive to reverse easier, much better.
