Koty's 91 Ranger Build Thread

No gotta put in drivetrain and still need to find wiring diagrams on both vehicles for the firewall connector because I wanna be sure there aren't any differences in them. Been kinda taking my time on it

Well its back to pouring rain just like the past 3 weeks ... this weekend was nice but had other stuff to be done rather than work on the truck. Anyways I got the transmission in except a few bolts that somehow came up too short. I guess I need to get all my fluids bought and start researching my wiring for the firewall connectors

Well taking a different route on wiring. Pulling the dash on both vehicles. Gonna use ALL tgw wiring from the explorer. Much less headache and practically fool proof. Just a little extra work

Slightly off topic but what did you use for driveshasfts after you did your axle swaps and ujoints? I know you are running a ranger trans and fullsize rear but just trying to find out what others have used and what they did when it came to this.

I used the stock front shaft and joints. The rear I took from the donor f150 with and shortened it. The tcase joint was a stock ranger joint and the axle side was the f150 joint.

Also I'm getting close! Got bother dashes out and pulled the wiring. Just gotta put the explorer wiring in my dash, hook it all up, get a new hydraulic clutch line from the jy, put all the fluids in, hook up radiator hoses and hook up the battery and computer. And pray it all don't go kaboom! LOL

Make a vid of the first start if possible. Ill just grab an f150 solid shaft and go from there.

I'm going to LOL hope I don't embarrass myself haha. And yeah mine was off a 78/79 but most should work as long as the slip yokes on the shaft which I'm guessing all older fords probably were. I did have to trim my gas skidplate since the full-size shaft wwas bigger diameter and would rub on turns and flex

I have a manual trans, np435 with the np208 to be exact, and it has the slip yoke so thats what I have to find. The problem is, most of the older fords rand 9 inch rear ends and didnt have the flanges that the 7.5 and 8.8 have and thats what I will need but shouldnt be any biggy putting a flange on to a ujoint. I just wonder if a auto trans shaft will work for me, I already have the slip yoke for the output since it came with the trans so not worried if that will work as long as the shaft diameters are the same Im all good.

As far as wiring...have fun with that, not hard but take it one wire at a time.

:worthless:

Picking up a clutch line tomorrow. Put that in, my shifter, the maf, and the battery then I can see if it has a heartbeat!

I won't say :X

It runs! It cuts off when I try to let it idle. Any recommendations? Missing 2 vacation lines would it be OK if I just plugged them til I find where they are?

If you have any vacuum leaks then it won't idle properly hince the idle issue. Plug them up and see how she runs.

Vacuum lines are the problem just gotta find where they belong

You didn't mark them before taking apart? Couple easy ways...vacuum line/emission chart or go
to the jy and find an exploder and look how it is setup.
