I bought a Kobalt toolbox for my truck a while ago. When I opened it up and stuff the keys were bent, but they still worked. so I didn't take it back to Lowes because I figured it was a waste of time and gas. So I tried to bend one back and I got it a little better, but I broke the other one trying to bend it back. Apparently these things have weird keys and no one makes them, I've tried 4 places around here. Should I just get a locksmith or something to make new ones for me?

Just have someone weld metal brackets on there and use a padlock... a padlock will hold up better than the stock locks will...

contact the manufacturer. youll have to provide proof of purchase im sure though

Kobalt boxes are made by betterbuilt.

You can order any parts, including keys from dawsbetterbuilt.com They even have a remote toolbox opener.

It looks like you just match the serial number on your lock to they proper key on their website and they'll mail it out.

As a cheap alternative you can take a hacksaw blade and file it down until it matches the profile of your working key. If you don't get it exact, a little silicone spray and wiggling will make it work.

He's correct to a point. The padlock will hold up until somebody with a pair of harbor freight bolt cutters decides they want your tools. As for the factory locks they can be opened easily with a gas cap lock pick and just a little skill/patience. There's also a few other methods I'm not going to post.

Personally I keep my kobalt box locked with the lock that came with it. I prefer the method that takes brains to bypass, since most tool thiefs don't have any. Either way they could always just get a crowbar under the lip to open it and bend it to hell. Like the saying goes, if somebody wants it bad enough...
