Anyone know how to replace the shift module in a 2001 Honda Civic? Not the solenoids. The module in the trans. The one in Vanessa's car is bad and I have to replace it. A used trans is $800-$1,200.

Can anyone get the instructions?

I was under the impression that the transmissions on obd2 vehicles were shifted by the same computer that controls the motor, hence the transmission codes in the scanner. Sorry I don't know the answer Jim but I hope someone does, it's an interesting question.

Man I'm surprised. I figured someone would have had an answer for me by now.

are you sure its inside the tranny? my buddys accord we replaced it and it was as simple as unplugging the old one and plugging the new one and rebolting to the inner fender

There is no transmission control module that I know of. Here are tranny diagrams or the regular auto HERE.

The PCM controls the solenoids on our '05 Pilot, and it's under the dashboard behind the center console. On that site are the rest of the car's parts. Maybe there is an external tranny controller elsewhere.

I checked the shift solonoid and it tested OK. A freind of mine took it to his friend that had a computer that could scan all the codes. He told him it had a bad shift module. ???

What is the symptom? Won't move at all? Is it the CVT or the regular auto?

The car has the 1.7L VTEC.

It was slipping a little so I checked the transd fluid and added a little. The next day she drove it to work and it went out on her. Began slipping real bad. The check engine light came on and that was it. The car wouldn't go forward or reverse.

I towed it to a friends. He scanned it will a scanner he borrowed from Advance Auto Parts. Got a code for Incorrect Gear Ratio which is the code for the trans slipping.

He reset the code and the car drove like it was new. Went and got it and Vanessa drove it home. Just before we got home it did the same thing. No forward or reverse gears.

Towed it to my friends again. Tested the solonoid. Checked ok. Took it off, cleaned it, and put it back on. Drove it again. Drove good for a few miles and started slipping again. It lost forward gears, shut it off, restarted it, and it started driving again, but was slipping.

It's bizarre that you can reset the code and the car will drive like new for 10-15 miles.

Had my friend take it to another friends shop. He supposedly scanned it with a mor expensive detailed scanner and said it needed a new shift module.

I can't find anything to indicate where this is suppose to be.

I know it's blaspheme but have you tried honda-tech.com or something similar? There's a lot of good info once you learn to filter past the ricers.
