i recently redid my valve cover gaskets and put everything back together and now it runs really bad. it shakes and knocks when it is under load. I checked all the plug wires and every electrical cannection and vacuum connection. I dropped my coil pack on the ground though when I was doing this, would that be enough to harm it. How can I test this coil, I know my repair manual tells me to use the ohm meter which i will do, but can a take an old spark plug and gap it to .200" and check for blue spark or do auto parts stores do this kind of coil testing?

By far the most common mistake in a post like yours is simply the wires are on the wrong plugs... sounds like you have 2 wires that need to be changed. Check your wiring again.
