Where is the Knock Sensor located on the 2.9L? I get a clatter if I accelerate rapidly from the start. If I start slowly it doesn't make any noise and accelerates smoothly. I have replaced all of the sensors except the knock sensor. I looked it up on NAPA but havent been able to find in on my engine.
I know Doorgunner will have the answer.

A picture would help.

Thanks,

By the starter in the engine block you can test if it is working with a timing light. With the engine at an idle look at the timing marks and have someone tap on the block next to the knock sensor with a wrench the timing should retard with the tapping. just dont tap on the sensor they are brittle and expensive.

Have you confirmed the timing is at 10 DBTDC with the spout disconnected and have you checked the timing chain for slop. pull the dizzy cap and take a wrench and turn the crank in both directions a little until the rotor turns there should be little movement in the crank until the rotor turns.

That would be pretty hard to do. The sensor is located under the manifold and almost impossible to get to from the engine compartment. Looks like I will have to go underneath because the fender panel has a lot of items mounted on it so I can't pull the front wheel and get to it. Parts houses don't stock the knock sensor but I have ordered one for $65. I'll tackle the change job when it comes in. By the way - I go first class.
