Kingpin Movement.

That is a lower ball joint. No vehicle built in the last 50 years has used king pins.

Do both the upper and lower as it is a lot of work to get in there compared to the extra work to do both joints while you are already there.

Most of the needed tools can be rented at a local parts store for less than the cost of labor, but you will need an alignment when you are done. It's not a hard job, if you are at all mechanically inclined. I did mine in about an hour a few months ago. I had air and all the right tools already in hand though. Working at home with hand tools expect it to take 3 or 4.

mmmm. 50 years? there were quite a few king pin ford tib trucks, if you ever have to replace a set of siezed ones you will never forget it....i hated them damn things. hours upon hours with a rosebud and 20 pound hammer i will never get back...

my ranger has kingpins as well.....of course its axle is older then you....but it certainly has king pins.

dana 25-27-30-44-60-70 all had king pin versions. many even closed knuckle...most newer then 50 years.

Can I use Dana 28 Ball joints in a Dana 35?

no.....totally different.

Yeah, the Ford F-350 4WD had kingpins as recently as 1991.

I have always sworn by Raybestos "Professional Grade" ball joints, however they too have recently been swiped up by Federal Mogul (maker of Moog) So I don't have an idea where their quality stands at the moment, though I don't have reason to believe they are being made in China (yet).

Raybestos pt# for your D35 would be:
500-1066 (upper)
505-1145 (lower)

I seem to recall it being determined in the past the joints BG sells are "Service Grade" parts (inferior to "Professional Grade" parts). Note the silver-colored bodies (the Pro Grade ones used to be gold).

The Federal Mogul-made Raybestos Pro joints I believe will have a dark black body (not gray or silver), but will still have the bright stainless-appearing stud seen on the old Raybestos Pro joints (lower joint only).
