gf has a 2001 chevy cavalier, when she takes it out of park and puts it in any gear, it just dies, its done it about 5 times in the last month, but it doesnt always do it, doesnt matter if its hot or cold. i was thinkin it was cuz she stepped on the gas but its not. so any ideas

Sounds like it could be an idle issue? I had a similar problem with a carbureted car.

lol the tranny is over full on fluid and yes its a chevy. but it seems like its more of an idle issue but it only does it once in a blue moon

Well, cavs dont usually last much longer than 100k before they take a shit on your wallet and leave you stinkin broke and walking...When is the last time she had a tune up? Spark plugs, wires, maybe even a new timingbelt/chain....Id try that first...and adjust the idle while you're at it...then sell it and buy a honda or nissan if she really want a lil car.

Either 1- an IAC (idle air control) or 2- Torque converter lockup solenoid, locking the torque converter as soon as it goes in gear, doing the same thing as dropping a clutch at idle.

I would pull the IAC off first and clean it out with throttle body cleaner (DO NOT use Carb or brake cleaner, it will wear away the special coatings) and a lil WD40 never hurt either. If that doesnt take care of it it might be a trans problem.

Dustin
