Keeping the 3.0's revs "up in the happy zone" killing my city MPGs!!


I short shift 1-3rd and rev it out more in 3rd and 4th. I have no problem averaging 18-19mpg mixed and 21+mpg highway. In higher gears I shift at 3-4k rpm. My 3.0 is runs best at 2700+rpm, anything lower with any kind of load, it feels like it's lugging. Hopefully a composite upper will help mid-range torque production.
 
BTW--Peak torque is listed at 3750 for the 3.0 up to 2001, 2002-up is listed at 3650.
