How accurate is KBB generally on trade in prices?

I'm thinking this summer I might want to move up to a half ton (probably Chev, sorry guys), around a 2004/05. KBB says my truck is worth around $6,000 on trade in, 2005 Regular Cab, Short box, 2.3L, stick, 2wd, XLT, good condition.

Does this sound about right?

I could try to sell it privately, but shit is hard to move around here.

Personally, I was just looking at KBB online today, and I think there prices are inflated, unfortunatly.

Due to the fact that people are getting rid of their trucks for smaller vehicles, it certainly is a buyers market. You will get a great deal on a full size but 6k on a trade in sounds pretty high for a stripped down 2wd ranger. I think you can get 6k for a private sale maybe. Do you have any large cities close by that would be easy to post your truck? Try listing it on Craigslist and see what people you can get interested.

Nope, entire county as a population of less than 10,000.

I guess we'll see what happens this summer first with the economy before I go and buy anything.
