am considering putting a k&n intake in my 08 4.0. anyone who has done this, is the extra hp that much of an improvement? any increase in gas mileage? how difficult is the install? im not much of a mechanic:icon_welder: thanks

I have one in my 3.0. The install was simple and only took about a half hour. As far as horsepower gains I really didn't notice that much of a difference, especially for the amount of money that I paid. Your better off spending a little more money and buying a decent power chip or a programmer. I have a Jet Performance Programmer and it made a huge difference. Better throttle response and more top end power where my truck was really lacking. The only benifit that I've found to the cold air intake was that I like the way it sounds when you really step on the gas. However, it also makes a loud whistling sound at higher mph. Also as far as gas mileage I didn't see any improvement with the intake. The programmer, however, got me about another 3-4 mpg on average.

If you send me the money you would pay for the K&N intake, you will get the same performance & MPG increase!! :D:D

What a can of worms.

Your truck COMES WITH from the Factory a Cold Air Intake.

K&N filter cost replacement. about 60 bucks. OEM filter about 7. in other words it will take 9 years of replacement of the OEM filter every year to cover the cost of the 1 year replacement of the K&N. And the OEM filter works better and passes the same amount of air. And doesn't get oil on the MAF sensor which can cause you more headaches.

You are Better off without the K&N cold air intake kit which doesn't give you a cold air intake due to the fact moves the air intake Into the engine compartment where the HOT air is.

ok im done. whos next?

Just a small correction: With the holes in the K&N filter media, it will flow more air than the OEM paper filter, along with a lot more dirt and oil. What
most people don't understand is the OEM filter is designed to flow way more air than the engine will pull, so you won't get any additional air flow with the
K&N, just more dirt and oil.

just more dirt and oil.

You forgot the most important thing, Bob - more SOUND. It stands to reason, if it sounds more powerful,

it must be...............................right???????

(just applying a little ricer logic here)

Good point Bird, I forgot about that!!! And don't forget the K&N decal in the back window, that's good for a few HP too!!!!:headbang:

should make this a sticky at the top. this topic comes up frequently.

I have a FIPK on mine and LOVE it, the install is easy! I also have JBA headers. I don't give a shit what anyone says, it may not increase anything people find valuable, but it looks good and I like it.

Oh, and i have a poor mans Super Charger too. When I go WOT, the wife screams WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Man, i love that woman, she's plays the game so well LOL.

Thats the same thing I was going to say.

I'm going to say that if you live in a dusty inviroment then a washable filter would work, and not just a K&N filter. I know Fram makes a washable filter. And why always K&N, what about using another like AEM, not like its going to make a difference other then those dont use oil????

k&n is a joke.......... jmho.

I took the intake baffle off my 97 just for a litte whoosh factor, but that's about it.

Frank

k & n is NOT a joke...........

my ranger has better acceleration & gets better gas mileage with a K&N filter....

of course the weight differential of the two 20's & a ten that I paid for the filter probably has a lot to do with the improvements.....

i thought we ironed all this out b4 christmas last year??????:icon_confused:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha
