JY Coils?

Is there any good way to tell if a pair of springs from a junkyard are shot, prior to buying?

New springs range from 80-120 dollars, plus shipping. The junkyard sells them for 7 bucks a piece.

I've heard that it's a horrible idea, but a lot of the time there are trucks there that do have good springs. What do you think?

I have a set of 3" drop coils that will fit yours, I had them on for a while but they were too much camber for me. I have never considered the JY coils, but if I was I would take a close look at the wear on them, were they involved in an accident and stressed, have they been replaced (i.e. one looks newer than the other), I would NEVER take one that has been painted by the owner - it may cover defects. And lastly do not get ones that someone else has cut down.
Other than those considerations off the top of my head I wouldn't know what else to check.

I'll take that into consideration. But sometimes I see coils that are brand new looking, with stock paint, but they are worn as hell.

Anyone have some measurements of what a stock 3rd gen coil in good condition is supposed to be? Compressed/uncompressed.

Will 1998+ coils fit?
