Just sucked in SEAFOAM, now waiting for about 10 minutes before firing it up!

Well this is my first time using "SEAFOAM" so I hope it'll do a good job of cleaning out some of my carbon deposits in the engine.

I could'nt get the motor to stay running at first because as soon as I took my thumb off of the brake booster vaccum hose it wanted to die. I got it on the third try though by starting the engine with the hose through the top of the can and monitoring it until only about a third of the can was sucked down.

Some on here have said to wait up to 30 minutes but I'm going to go closer to the recommended wait time on the can of about 5 minutes.

I'll post back up with the results here in a little bit. Later.

Well the results are in!

I had my Ranger halfway sticking out of the garage and when I first fired it up there was soooooo much smoke coming out of the tailpipe I thought I messed up my engine!

After about 2-3 minutes the smoke started to subside but was still very visible. I took it for a quick test drive (a spirited high revving one) and then pulled back into my garage. I popped the hood while the engine was still running and manually throttled it and held it at about 3000 rpms for sustained periods about 6-7 times.

My findings so far, as I will probably have to drive it for a more extended period to know for sure:
The idle appears to have greatly smoothed out and there was a noticeable tick, tick, tick or clack, clack, clack which for right now is TOTALLY gone! I came here to post right after I injected it, and then again right after I started it and ran it.

I know some people swear by this stuff and so far it really seems to work phenomenally.

Just drove it in front of my house again to load up things needed for tomorrows job and the quietness of the engine is magnificent! I can't believe how this stuff works! I mean there is absolutely no more ticking coming from the engine bay! It sounded like a lifter or something but it's absolutely gone now!

Maybe I had a lot of carbon buildup over all of these years and this stuff cleaned it out and made it run better. I hope it helps my gas mileage as well. I'll repost on this tomorrow to see if the results are permanent. Later.

Thanks. Keep us posted on how it does.

So what's Seafoam and where do you get it,sounds like something my '97 2.3 might like considering it's prefering only premium fuel at the moment, getting expensive.

"Seafoam" is a engine cleaner. It's sold at most auto parts stores. NAPA and Autozone have it in this area (WNY).

Its also good at separating you from your money. shady

OK, well the engine IS definitely quieter then before at idle and accelerates a little better then before. When I turn corners in second gear it doesnt lug like it would occasionally do before either.

It just feels smoother and I swear that the tick sound is gone! I'm pretty satisfied with the results from a $6.00 can.

I'm trying to give an honest report on how it worked for me and I can honestly say that although it's not a night and day difference, it is definitely a difference that is VERY noticeable. Both in accelleration and overall running condition.

I say give it a shot if you feel you need to clean out some carbon deposits.

seafoam also can go anywhere, in the gastank, in the engine through the brake booster (like you did) or in the oil. cleaned out my friends '91 2wd ranger real good, my girlfriend came outside and screamed THE TRUCK IS ON FIRE!!!!!!! and i said no its the SEAFOAM workin'

I used it on my 4.0 a few months back and I was very pleased with the results. I noticed my truck seemed to run a little smoother and it felt like I got a little better gas mileage. Probably had more to do with how it was running.

Because it's the "fad" additive of the hour. Everyone who uses it swears it works miracles. It's main ingredient is napthene, and is mixed with pale oil. No magic there.

TOP is assuming he had carbon buildup, and his ass dyno told him he did the right thing as did others. If one really does have carbon buildup, and there is not a problem with the engine, one needs to change his driving habits.

If there is carbon buildup, 8 to 12 ounces of water will get rid of it in the combustion chamber where everyone seems to think there is a problem.

I am not a believer of "fix it in a can" additives, and most are snake oil. The feds have slammed many of them with fines. shady

ya, spraying a mist of water in the intake effictivly steam cleans the conbustion chambers. If you break up large chunks are carbon, they could get stuck in places they should not be in.

Well to me a $6.00 can's not going to break the bank and I have a couple more uses in it as well.

Again, to me it was worth the six bucks to clean up an over 350,000 mile engine where there is no longer an audible ticking sound that was there before, not to mention the smoother idle.

If it's truly a fad then sign me up for "MORE SNAKE OIL"........lol
