because im so mad.

my girlfriend of 3 years and her mom worked at the same place here in san diego. last friday, with no warning they let my girlfriend go with, their reason was they were taking taking the company in a "different direction"
it suck but oh well we move on, she already has another job. not THAT big of deal.

then her mom went into work yesterday and got pulled into the managers office and got yelled at for being a bitch (with no prior evidence no write ups nothing) they sent her home and told her to straighten her attitude and come back the next day. she agreed and left hoping that she could figure it out then last night with no warning one of the managers sent a text to her letting her know that her last check was in the mail and that she could pick her things up in the morning, she tried to get a reason why and no one could tell her. She called the owner of the company today to try and figure it out and they all had told the owner that she had resigned. ok, he made a deal that she could continue working there if she apologized (for who knows what). then texted her back 15 mins later and told her not to come back.

the worst part is she worked there for 14 years and they fired her over text.

f@#$ing bullshit.

So she got fired for no reason? I'd get a lawyer.

yup, a good employee of 14 years with no write ups. basically a backbone of the company, being that there were only 10 people in the office. She never even got a warning. its so jacked. im normally one that can see both sides of an argument but i do not see their side of this, and sometimes she can have attitude but not enough for this to happen. especially with NO prior warning. she says she is going to sue, but who knows.

she asked them to give her a reason why and they texted back "no comment"

Wrongful dismissal...probably good for a nice fat severance payout...she should get 1 week for every year she worked but she could probably sue for much more...but make sure you get a lawyer that won't charge up front and only gets a percentage of the final payout...some of them try for 50% or more...like the one I had...who charged me $1,000 and I later found out he got disbarred...and no settlement for me...

i think she wants to try and go through the labor board he in california

Sounds like somebody else wanted to move up and worked a deal on the side.

That IS some bullshit. Good luck with the case!

I don't know how it is there in Commifornia, but usually states have some kind of labor relation board - like you said. As an ex-manager, there must be specific WRITTEN procedures you have to go through to fire somebody - at least hear. If the company can't document the reasons, and a specific thing she did, they'll pay big. Legally, they also have to prove that - in the middle of the night, they changed their policies e.g. "You can't text" and they can't proove that it was communicated and accepted to by her, they're screwed again. We've had a few disgruntled employees fired over the years and the labor board generally sides with the person who brings the complaing.

I fired a guy who had a fish-net stocking fetish. It violated our company's internet access rule when he was looking that sh!t up at work. I had a previous instance documented, with his signature saying he knows if he did it again, that was our right. Case closed.

I see this from both perspectives. As a manager, the best thing I can ever tell you about personnel issues is this: document, document, document. As an employee, if you get shafted, use the fullest extent of the law to shaft them in the A$$.

From my understanding California is like many States, it's an "At will State". The laws vary from state to state but an "At will State" is where an employer can terminate an employee without cause. California does have restrictions though. Here's a link to give them to see if any laws were broken.

Good luck!

Yea I know but that still doesnt make it right, I know the world is no where near just, but it's shitty that there was no warning

Even in at will states you have to have some reasons and it can still be costly to fire a good employee for no reason at all. They are generally also obligated to give the terminee a reason.

I'm having a hang up with what you say here. I'm interpreting this as your Mother-in-Law admitted to "being a bitch", and then left. Why did she admit guilt if she didn't agree with their accusations?

I would definitely seek some legal advice, that whole situation seems fishy.

California is not a "right to work" state.

She didn't admit guilt. They told her she needed to straighten her attitude. That's how she portrayed it to me they were saying the she was "being a bitch" she didn't agree with it at all, but not much she could do when her boss was chewing her out. They told her to go home, she went In that day ready to work. Not much she could have done regardless. They probably pulled her in the office that morning with the idea that it was going to happen.

Been fired for no reason 2 times in my working life with ZERO reason given.

It's life. Get used to it and move along.

Unless you are under a legally binding contract they can fire you for no reason and you have no complaint that anyone will listen to.
