just dropped in to say good by trs

Just cause you said it I went and looked it up - and there is no comparison. It might have the same peak torque, but it's way higher up in the powerband. Down low, the 3.9 looks very anemic, doesn't even get into the torque until after 2000rpm, and peak is at 3200rpm, which is terrible in a truck.

Non issue, my 2.8 could still spin both rear muds offroad in 2wd with enough blowby to push the dipstick out. New it put down 115hp @ 4600rpm and 150lb-ft @ 2600rpm. It had an automatic too. With the Dakota, power wasn't the issue.

You wanna talk about anemic... :shok:

Why, yes, I have a few buddies who own Dakotas. In fact, my cats and my buddies and me can make that a much better ride for you!!! lol

:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

In fact, my cats can read instructions much better than most of you do. lol

that's why low range exists, too bad 2WDs don't have it.

My 2wd Ranger has low.

It also kinda has a 4x4 system. Front drive shaft is on the work bench, so the truck is still effectively 2wd.

I have seen manuals do the same thing. :icon_thumby:
You can defend your autos all you want but all things being equal, manuals will always be more reliable and not fail as catastrophically :stirthepot: Stock NV3500 tranny here with 195,000+ miles sitting behind a turbocharged small block on a stock clutch for the last 16,000+ miles, any questions :thefinger:

:icon_confused: The 3.9 Magnum is making 200ft/lbs@1600 RPMS and peaks at 225ft/lbs at 3200 RPM, it's making 200+Ft/lbs from 1600RPMS to 4500RPMS. Yeah the 4.0 has a little more grunt down low, but to call the 3.9 anemic  And trust me, I'm a 4.0 fan, there's a reason there's one in my B2.

OP, Dakotas are good trucks, don't let the brand loyalty here discourage you :icon_thumby:

I just dropped online to say good by to TRS and say i have enjoyed my many years on here. but it's time to move on.. i have bought my self a dodge Dakota v6 auto 4x4..
It was getting hard for me to be shifting the standard in the '04 and i found this Dakota for $1,100.00 difference in price so i bit the bullet and traded. it was a hard discussion to make for me being a 5 time buyer of rangers but i just couldn't find a ranger that had all the bells and whistles for the money.

:icon_cheers: to all the friends I've made and best wishes to all and your families

rangers are expensive

it boggles my tiny little mind:dunno:

i would like to add to this.....dakotas stock to stock usually beat rangers and s10's where i am from...and s10's usually beat rangers too till the cammers came out....

Not defending them, just throwing a realistic rain on your parade.

They are not bulletproof either. And if whatever your NV3500 is in still had the factory original clutch I would be really impressed, because that is what you are expecting the automatic to have. And usually the clutches in an automatic outlive their geardrive counterparts because they have a system to cool them.

As far as catastophic, cogboxes can be pretty interesting if they want be. I have seen all sorts of goofy crap come in the shop... although what we get in is a lot more complicated than a measily 4-6 speed car/pickup transmission.
