Driving along doing 70 mph slow down to exit and merge all of a sudden it starts to spudder and lose power 55 mph top speed pull over and it dies. Try to crank with no start. All gauges are normal and no CEL or idiot lights. When I crank it, it cranks a bit faster than normal otherwise no other symptoms.
2000 3.0L AT flex 4x4 I am hoping for a crank position sensor.
I am really starting to dislike this truck. Any thoughts? TIA

Was hoping for a simple Camshaft syncro, not to be, seems I've managed to crack a head and the rest of the story awaits a more detailed examination. May be time to replace with a 4.0 yeah that's the ticket. Guess that means I have to move o the 4.0 forum.

it's deader than ^#%*^%$# new motor time. oh well it's only money, head hung low.....

You managed to crack a head on a 3.0 without any signs of overheating?

Are you -sure- you trust your mechanic?

If you're going to swap in a new engine, skip the 4.0 and go straight to a v8, or something that will give you more than a modest increase in power.

I don't think a cracked head is goin to cause a no start problem. You say it spins faster? sounds like you lost compression somewhere.

Well as it turns out about 6 weeks ago the power steering pump locked up causing a dramatic overheating inicident but, did not seem to harm the motor or so I thought . Right after that #4 cylinder misfire code, replaced plug no problem, was not using motorcraft. During the Post-mortem there was no fluid in the radiator and when refilled for testing it forced fluid out of the radiator when cranking. It had 112K miles on it, I don't pretend to be a motorhead just know enough to be dangerous. Have been dealing with this garage for a while they have always been good to me in the past. If I were 30 years younger and had the time I would tackle this myself but, as I am getting gray in hair and long in the tooth I'll leave that to the younger men.

Got it back on Thursday and have managed not to blow it up yet. New motor has 60K on it and runs great. Replaced the rearend with a 8.8 off a 97 ranger, feels great not having the clunk everytime I start off. Still learching at take off and stopping, have to upgrade or replace the leaf springs.
