okay so I swapped an m5od into my 93 ranger 4.0 4x4. I still have the auto column in it and also auto ecu still. I have a check engine light which I didn't have with auto trans. also when I plug my obd1 scanner in it picks nothing up and when I tried jumping the pins under the hood in the eec test connector and running test light to positive cable the cel light just stayed lit. anyone have any ideas?

It's pissed off because it doesn't see the OD and lockup circuits in the tranny anymore. A manual trans computer will be needed to turn it out.

would that explain why its running weird too?

What ecu # do I need?

I don't know for sure. There are variables that I need to know.

What are the BIG letters/numbers on your current PCM, and how many wires do you have going to the injector harness?

I might actually have one you can use, but I need that info first.

heres the pic on the tag of my current auto ecu:

Ok, I pulled up the numbers today at work, wrote them down, and left it at work. I'll look at it tomorrow and figure out what you need.

dam wanted to try to get a computer by saturday

Still wondering what ecu# I need

Alright, I think this is the computer you need

F37F12A650-CRA

Alright called auto parts store today and they said there's 3 ecus to choose from

Yeah, the part number in the pic you posted crosses to a 4.0, A/T, probably California emissions.

Any of these numbers should work

Elec Cont Unit (ECU), 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, MT, ID F37F-LA
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, MT, ID F37F-UA
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, MT, ID F37F-UB
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, MT, ID F37F-UBMR
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, MT, ID F37F-UC

Just make sure that you get one from a truck that has EGR if your truck has EGR.

No egr on.my truck. Don't think its Cali emissions either. How's would I know?

Well, the cert label will tell you, but usually EGR is the give away.

The big white sticker that tells you what engine it has, and the plug gap and everything, if you have Cali emissions it should say something about California or CARB or something.
