I ended up getting an axle out of a 2000 Explorer Sport. 4:10 gears limited slip, $325. Thanks for all the help you guys gave me this last few days on deciding which way to go. I'm sure I'll have some drive shaft questions next week.

a little pricy but good find. how tight is the
L/S?

I checked all over and the $325 was the best deal I could find. This one has fairly low miles and the 4:10 gears and LS added to the price.

I don't know how good the LS is yet. I plan on installing a Detroit locker anyway.

$325 is a really good deal in this area. All the yards in my area (same region as BackDog) a Ranger rearend goes for about 350, and an Explorer rear end is to 425-500. That is the best deal at any of the yards around here...
