Found something that I've never seen before in the junkyard today.

A 1989 Ranger Custom, with Montana Centennial decals on it, 1889-1989. Montana entered the United States in 1889. Attached are a few photos:

of the truck in general.

of the Ranger Custom logo, that I've never seen before. Im thinking its a bottom end option package, much like the F150 Custom?

close up of the Montana Centennial decal. I suppose it would be rare, if only Montana dealerships were doing this.

And one of the engine bay. Of note was the aircleaner box. I've never seen that large L shaped box before. Was this for 5-speed models? There was another much worse shape Custom nearby, with no bed, and it was also a 5-speed, was this one.

Mine is a custom, rubber floor, vinyl bench, steel roof, somehow had A/C though :icon_confused:

I have seen a couple second and third gens, never seen another first. That is my badge in my avatar, it has the first generation font.

I am going to guess the Montana deal was a dealer package. I recently snagged some "Midwest Edition" badges for mine that was a midwest dealer package for F-150's a couple years ago... I think all it amounted to was the badges.

ive seen idaho centennial editions as well. im guessing it was a dealer addition?

Nice, my 84 had a rare trim package that was featured on only select showroom trucks and it had a dealership decal job to the same thing. Also had a pull-down maplight with a digital clock on the ceiling.

I have seen that in higher end trucks, I actually have a tan one out of an Eddie Bauer BII minus the light. I had hopes of tracking down a light and putting it in my Ranger but it won't work because of the lack of a headliner. :annoyed:

I once had an 89 2wd ranger custom with a 4cyl 5spd. White with black painted bumpers, black rubber floor with a red vinyl interior......... had no options except am/fm cassette and a rear bumper.......... It was called the North West Edition.

that air cleaner box is like what came on my truck, it's late '89 early '90, early '89 were the rectangle box with a long rubber hose with wire reinforcement in it like on a 2.9, in early '90 they added a MAF sensor which changed the box again. They went to that box shown in your pics because it has an air muffler built n the L part where the older style din't.

oh, and my truck started as a fleet special, probably didn't come with a radio (had aftermarket antenna when I got it), had no options what so ever. The chassis I'm running on came on a Ranger Custom, basically same setup as my truck but was 4x4 with manual transfer case and transmision, and I think came with a radio.

If anyone wants a source for that drop down map light, I got mine from my first car, a '85 Tempo, I made a wood box to mount to the base and glued some hard drive magnets to the top to stick to my ceiling (no headliner from the factory)

Probably a dealership-made special badging. It happens.

Oh, thats the other thing, it was a 4x4. I didn't think the 2.3L's came in 4x4, and you needed to ge the v-6 for that. At least I've never seen a 2.3L 4x4 before.

I know of truck with the drop down light. Its for the reddish color interior. How much are you willing to spend?

I have custom badges on my third gen, but I got them off a 2nd gen.
