Josh40601's Build Thread. (D-ranged)

Thanks man! Too bad i still can't get this cooling issue whipped. Looks like i may have cracked a head....

hell no. 5.3 is going in next winter.

Well guys, sorry i haven't updated the page in a while, i have been doing nothing but trying to fix this damn thing. I have replaced every cooling part on the truck (other than cylinder heads) and still the truck is over heating. I personally think the radiator i bought doesnt have the ass to cool the truck, so i bought a factory Ford one from the JY yesterday. I found a used motor for 150 bucks and a rebuilt 4-0 for 500. Money is tight, so looking at going with the used motor and pulling the heads.

Get a 95-97' motor if your head swapping! Might as well gain a bit of power and compression while your at it.

If i do that, then i have to change out wiring and computer, and i just dont feel like going through all that crap when i have to completely tear it all back apart come next winter

I meant just the heads, if your getting a used engine for parts.... otherwise, stick to the stock motor like you said.

if i get the 95-97 heads, wont i have to change the intake and valve covers too?

Nope, just put it together with the newer heads. Upper intakes are different (metal vs. plastic) but you can re-use all your original intake etc.

so if i pick up a set of 95-97 heads that have already been assembled, i can just bolt them right in?

Yup, and it should bump you to around 10:1 compression, and have better flow as well.

I'll have to see what i can find at a JY. Are they as prone to cracking as the 93-94?

Not that I'm aware of, you seem to hear less of it on the forums as with the earlier years. Could just be less miles on the newer ones though too....

thats true. Just wondering if i can get a set for that cheap?

I have a whole long block 97' engine I'd give you if you were closer.... but shipping would suck!
