i'm going to keep a diary of major days in the build of the Bronco II that I'm going to acquire in the next couple days. I'll make sure to keep this first post updated with how things are going, as well as my project plans. So to start off:
Jan. 8, 2010
I posted an ad on craigslist looking for cheap B2s in the area. That night, I had a response from someone who said they'd sell me their B2 on new 36" mickey thompson baja claws for $250. New Baja Claws cost quite a bit more than $250, so needless to say, I was interested. I went to look at it today and here's what I found:
The good:
the Baja Claws are indeed in brand new condition
The truck has a total of 10" of lift. The springs don't appear to be sagging and everything was welded for superior strength. There's also a T-bird rear axle underneath it with disc brakes. Having the 8.8" axle and disc brakes already installed is a HUGE time saver.
The bad:
I never did get to run the engine since the starter and fuel pump are both dead, but I highly doubt that the engine would've started anyways. The 2.8 looked worn out and didn't have an air filter or fuel/vacuum lines on the carb. The doors have also been completely folded forward and the driver side front window is broken out. Thanks, vandals!
If I didn't have a Ford Explorer full of plenty of good donor parts, i'd never buy this rig. But since I do, as well as plenty of mechanical inclination and friends who know what they're doing, I figure this rig is perfect for me. My goal is to do part 1 of the project for less than $100. Part 1 consists of the 4.0 swap, Dana 35 front end swap, and front clip swap.
