my 98 with the 318 is getting decent mpg. outta 9xx mile testing with mixed city/hwy and over 70mph sometimes i have a avg of 18mpg

Those jeeps are gas hogs to begin with.. have fun with that.

I have an 06 Wrangler and an 02 Grand Cherokee 4x4 and they both are great on the road and off the road and the gas milage is better than a Rangers, Bro!!!! I get over 400 miles per fill up on both the Jeeps!!! I love the Jeeps as much as my Ranger. They are all in mint shape and drive to perfection.

This ones alot older than those, jeep improved on the MPG of their vehicles.

I drove around a grand cherokee for a couple days, with the 4.0 engine. It got about 17mpg average. I have a friend with a V8 one that gets 14 on a good day, he parks it all summer and drives his motorcycle around for the good gas mileage.

I have a few friends who have the older Jeep Cherokees and the Grand Cherokees and they have had them since new. They never had any issues with them and they get taken off road a lot as well. Yes, the gas milage on the older ones were not the selling point of course!!! But, to get in with your family and go offroad camping and enjoy a/c in the hot summer and load that thing up with the gear for a fun weekend of camping is priceless!!! Too bad we Ranger lovers never got the real 4 door Ranger here. Life just bites us so hard....lol

Pretty consistant with what I have heard too.

What money they don't burn in fuel they will take from you in repairs... just like any good Chrysler. They are consistantly one of the poorest rated in both departments.

They can be fun to play with though, I hope the OP gets along ok with his.

I have had no repairs to any of my Jeeps and neither do any of my Jeep family friends. I don't know where you get your information from, but it not correct. I have had Mopars almost all my life and I never had any troubles with any of them. Everybody I know who has had a Chevy or a Ford tells me they break down a lot. Not my current Ranger, Now. It is has been a great truck!! A lot of my buddies who bought their Chevy or Ford cars or trucks new said about 4-5 years later they have been cash out the window vehicals. None of my Toyota buddies or my Nissan buddies ever had any problems with any other their cars or trucks. I have known all of them for years now. But, I have been very happy with all of my Rangers and my BII's...but the best off road rides will always be my 76 and 76 Broncos!!! They never let me down and got me anywhere I wanted to go and looked so cool doing it. I am still kicking my ass for selling my last Early Bronco. It has been about 3 years now and I still want to go out to the garage jump in it and take it out for a nice long drive...but it is gone!!!! Oh, Well!!!

400 miles per fill up doesn't mean anything ,after all what size is that tank that you fill up.

My information comes from just about any new car survey along with just about anyone that I have talked to that has been around a mopar for any length of time.

I bought my '02 F-150 in '05 with 25k miles, aside from tires and brakes at just under 80k right now I replaced one $40 coil pack a year ago last winter after my stupid self buried it in a snow drift in the middle of a blizzard with a 40mph crosswind overnight.

I have been reading Consumer Digest and Car and Driver and Road and Track for over 35 years. The Mopars have always received great reviews. Long term testing was done on several Jeep models and there were no issues. I believe in what I read and my own personal experiences as well.

My 02 Grande Cherokee has 31x17x10.5 tires and I get over 23 mpg. It is a 18.8 gallon tank and I have over 6 gallons left when I fill it up at 400 road miles. That is my stopping point. I just like to get gas at ever 400 mile intervals. The same with my lifted Ranger. I get 350 miles to a tank and I still have a few gallons left. So...what does your Ranger get? Have you checked it yet? Some people do not care what they get..but I do.
