My girl's 93 Grand Cherokee Laredo has a trans issue. It's 4.0L, auto, part-time 4x4

It starts off in 2nd unless you manually put it in 1st. It's only be doing it for 2 days, but I gotta get it fixed.

I'm moving to Missouri in two weeks, and were driving this thing. No it's not towing my Ranger, but it will be loaded with boxes.

What do I gotta do, or check to fix this?

starting out in second sounds normal for an automatic. does it downshift to first when you stomp on the gas or when you go up a steep hill?

an auto is supposed to start in first, always. starting in second gear is a default limp home mode, or a malfunction in the mechanics inside the trans or valve body.

a lot of auto's start out in second if they can.

starting out and STAYING in second is limp in mode

it wont downshift when stopping or under load or throttle. i'm takin it to my trans guy tomorrow.

Trans is shot!

I need one like yesterday, if anyone has one let me know. It's a 4x4 42RE.

what specificly happend to it
