will a L/S out of a jeep dana 35 fit int my ranger dana 35?? if so i could go 2 the bone yard and get a L/S out of a jeep

i knew there was a catch to it....so a cherokee with a 3.55 gear fit with 3.73's or is it the other way? 90 percent of cherokee's came with 3.55's

no it wont work.

You need the "3.55&up" carrier for your Ford D35.

from the tech section;
(All D35 TTB gears use the "Hi-Ratio" (3.55 & up) carrier, regardless of ratio)

but,
I think the rotation is different from the front 35 and the rear 35.
Anyone know?

The carrier doesn't care about the rotation. A Torsen MIGHT, but I highly doubt you'll wander across one of those. The only reason one of them would be in there is if someone installed one from the aftermarket.

It should be a clutch type if your expecting the OEM L/S, it can go whichever direction you want.

To fit a Jeep D35 carrier in the Ranger housing you have to clearance the housing to point where it is pretty thin.

Huh? Where's this?

A buddy and me were thinking of dropping a L/S D35 carrier into his BII, but it wouldnt sit down in the saddles because the carrier hit the housing (on the end w/o the ring gear.) I think we could have made it work with a combination of clearancing the carrier in the housing, but he didnt want to risk ruining a good housing or carrier. I have no idea what gear set was on the Jeep carrier or what exactly it came out of. He bought it off craigslist, but I believe it was from an XJ.

could have possibly been the wrong carrier?

Yeah, I'm thinking you might've had a lo-ratio carrier and were trying to shim it way over to take up the huge gap that would've been between the gears.
The 3.55&up carrier has the ring gear flange mounted closer to the pinion, where the lo-ratio one puts it further from the pinion.

The 3.55:1 ratio carrier (OEM supplied) doesn't need any work to make it fit. No grinding is required. It's a direct replacement.
