i have 5 inches of lift going for more...how the heck do you guys get more lift out of your jacks after you max them out...cuz im there

or should i just get a hi lift jack? just curious...?

A hi-lift will only work if you have bumpers that will take the force, and will hook on (you can get all kinds of add-ons for a hi-lift to hook it to bumpers safely)

If your jack is in good shape, have a welder you trust make a taller, wider base out of some thick metal, and bolt your jack to it. of course, you may have to find a new place to put your bigger jack. not sure where they are on rangers.

It's probably frowned upon.. But I use cinder blocks, with an occasional block of 4x4 wood (on it's side) to get a tad more lift.

At least if it does come crashing down, I've got plenty of room underneath. Still dangerous, I know...

I've been using a car jack with a piece of wood on the lifting plate to get my truck off the ground. But I'm getting a taller jack pretty soon.

+1 on the cinder blocks(i only use a bottle jack like this), and it hold up good. i also seen people weld on a good hunk of mettle to the top of a jack to get more lift

if you do this, its at your own risk

You need a Hi-Lift jack.
Cinder blocks are strong yet brittle. I wouldn't use one on anything I'm going to crawl underneath.

I'd use one to get it up in the air but once it is jacked a good set of jack stands is your best friend. Leaving your truck on a jack is just asking for something to go wrong.

Yah i dont ever let my truck set on the jack to long. This is just to get it up in the air..I always put a jack stand under it, cuz when im working on the truck i like to crawl, jump, and beat on it with authority!

huh, well looks like im off to find some kind of adaptor plate to go on my stand then. Was hoping not to have to do it...but looks like thats where im at now. THANKS GUYS...off to the FAB shop...lol

i use 8x8 wood blocks, eather one on the lifting cradle or a row of them to make a base under my creeper jack

Don't use a High-Lift for anything except recovery--and only then as a last resort. Definately don't use it for maintenance. Those things slip and throw themselves right at your mouth, scattering your teeth like a billiard break.

Jack it up under the axles and invest in tall jackstands. I had no trouble using a floor jack to get 35s on and off of my truck. I jack it up, take off the tires, put my tall jackstands under there and let the suspension down. I have 17" of front travel and it works for me. I never use the High-Lift to try and lift the frame enough to hang the tires. That's nuts.

x2 i've had a hi-lift jack come out on me before... i was jacking up our sprayer that was hooked up to our CAT:dunno: scared the SH*T outta me, cause i saw that thing fly out, i was just glad i didn't get hit by it.

AND then my dad got hit in the mouth with the handle one time :icon_surprised: i'm surprised it didn't break his jaw!

look online for one of the military surplus scissors jacks, the ones used for heavy duty lifting with at least 20" of lift. should be the ones they use on the hummers and similar prime movers. about the same price as a hi-lift i think, but better safety wise, imho.
