Seems like this is an unsolved mystery of the Ranger. I have a 2001 and was replacing the windshield washer nozzles. The hose came off the passenger side and was lost under the cowl. I can see where it Ts off from the line and goes through the firewall but can't see or get to it behind the firewall. Is there access somewhere? Nobody seems to know on this one. Thanks.

There should be a 2 or 3 small coverplates you can remove to access inside the cowl area.

drill out all the spot welds holding the cowel on, remove. plug your line back in and bolt the cowel back on using the holes you drilled out.

I found the coverplate in the middle of the firewall - unfortunately the bottom screw is almost impossible to get to and of course it fell behind the motor. Also, the pcm harness runs directly in front of it so you can't actually get your hand inside the access hole. Does anyone know if it's okay to just unhook the battery, remove the pcm bolt in the center of the pcm and move the harness out of the way?? will I have to have it reprogrammed?? What can go wrong ???

As long as the Battery is unplugged first, it should be fine. Buy also wait for more experienced members to chime in.

I say ditch the washer pump all together and just move somewhere with alot of hobos to wash your windshield at red lights...

Yes, if you disconnect the battery you can safely remove the connector from the pcm and move the wire loom out of your way. There will not be any reprogramming required. However, the pcm will have to "learn" all the iac offsets, fuel trims, etc that it has picked up over time, so it will not be itself for a week or so after reconnecting things.
