well winters gone, and the pollens as gone as itll ever be so that means its... time to detail my truck!

Alright guys, what do you recommend? Theres just so much stuff out there, i dont even know where to start. I have a few bottles of various wax around, but I think ill pick up a new one. Also think i'll pick up a wheel cleaner of some sort. What else do you guys use?

i have these wheels on my edge, what kind of finish do they have(are they painted/clearcoated, polished, etc)

thanks guys! I will repay all of the help with pics:icon_thumby:

I forget who makes it but the NXT stuff is pretty good. But I continually revert back to McGuires.

The NXT stuff is made by Meguiars. It is awesome! Best wax I've ever used. I'm actually going to wax my truck today with it. Mother's wax leaves a fantastic finish too, but I find it doesn't last very long. I'm a big fan of the Mother's clay bar.

Well that would be why I like the nxt so much... brain fart! sorry long time since i waxed forgot it was made by them too lol.

I'm not 100% positive on your wheels but they appear to be part machined and part painted with clear coat over all of it.

I've also used Meguiar's recently. Works pretty good. Make sure to use separate cleaner first, then polish, then wax. I've never been fond of products that try to do more than one of those steps in the same bottle.

After a good cleaning I Clay bar the truck then wax the crap out of it. First week and the bird poo slides right off, but then with all the stuff coming off the tree i park under it goes to sh!t pretty quick

Im addicted to wax, have a few hundred bucks in waxes easy. One of the ones I like best that can be bought in stores (pep boys is the only place ive seen it) is Auto Glym High Definition wax. It looks really nice and lasts pretty good too. The most important thing when waxing though is proper prep work. Wash it with some Dawn to strip off any old wax and stuff like that. I have some Riccardo clay bar that I love. The bad thing is that it isnt legal in US because of patent laws. The one I like best other than that is Clay Magic Blue. It doesnt cost much and works awesome. Be sure and use lots of lube though and if you drop the clay, trash it. Tear it in half so you still have some if you drop it though. Once it hits the ground it picks up so much crap it will end up scratching the paint. Same thing with Microfibre too. Just better to grab a clean one. As for wheel cleaners, I just use the soap I wash with. After you get it waxed up and looking nice dont use anymore Dawn to clean it unless you are wanting to clay and re wax again.

I feel bad. I had my ranger for over a year and it has never seen soap let alone wax:sad: My F-350 I had for over three years same thing. Rain is the only time they get washed:dunno:

does wax go bad? I have a bottle of meguiars fast finish car wax that i found in my garage and one of mothers carnuba cleaner wax. the meguiars one i think might be from the 80s(copyright date on label is 1981) Should I just use one of these instead of buying some new stuff?

Anyone else have a definitive answer on the wheel finish? thanks

Don't use the old wax. Depending on how many hot cold cycles it's gone through it will be separated (if its a liquid) or dried all to hell if it's a paste.

As for brands I use 3M on all of my vehicles, It's a little pricey but I like the results.
