hey guys im ready to bring my ranger to the dealer ship i can't figure out why my motor keeps reving up on its own. When im shifting gears (standard) sometimes my engine will just rev up to 2500 until i punch the gas then it drops down again, and when im coasting with it in neutral it will idle at 1500 then drop to idle when im finally stopped!!! i can't figure out i put in a new idle control solenoid in summer and it didn't help,

Then one day when i was leaving school in november, i started my truck and it started reving up like crazy and wouldn't stop so then i shutter off, then it wouldn't start, so i thought maybe TPS then i unplugged it then started fine, turns out it was shot so i changed her out but the stupid high idle thing came back!!!

If you guys have some clues it would be really appreciated, im also getting horrid fuel mileage and i know its cold as hell out here but its worse that normal?

their both brand new lol i changed the solenoid the first time i had problems and it didn't fix it so i returned it got another and it was still the same problem and i had my battery disconnect all weekend...

any more ideas?

My ex g/f 99 use to do the same thing. I never did get around to figure out what it is. My 98 does it a little bit. It will idle at like 1200 coming to a stop in neutral then a few seconds later will drop down to normal. Would def like to know what causes this.

Edit** so i googled the problem and got this answer there is a recall for some trucks. Ford makes a high idle kit that is spliced in before the tps. Im assuming its a some sort of resistor or something. Will do some more research on this tomorrow it annoys the hell out of me! lol
