Went with my buddy to the local n pull to find a 4.0 to swap into my 99 xlt 4x4...the 3.0 had cracked heads when i bought it..and cracked bad enough to become undriveable after 3 months...

So we grabbed battery from pic n pull to try n crank over few engines...make sure they sound ok and do crank over....and verify mileage on some digital dash explorers...now gotta tell ya they drain oil and gas before they go into yard..
Well we found a 4.0 inn 04 explorer..side impacted middle of both doors on drivers side...wouldn't crank over..155000..probably damaged on impact..scary part..drivers side air bag DID NOT deploy...
Find a 2001 exploder 4.0 138000 miles..been there since January..cranks for 5 or 8 seconds and fires right up!!remember they drained gas and all oil/fluids when they brought in...she purrs for about 30 seconds before i become unshocked and turn off the key..I had no intention of trying to start any of theses today..no oil gas remember?

So i figure its brave enough to beg for new home and second chance.....its the one I'm buying....new set of chains and tensioners and into my 99 she goes...

Wow that's awesome. Wish my pick-a-part shops would allow you to do that. I could grab several engines, but I'm not about to pay that kind of money and spend all day there trying to get an engine out, get it home and find its bad.

Seriously I wish they'd leave the fluids in them, and have a list of what actually is wrong with the vehicle....and some probably just the owner didn't want it because that new $80k SUV is just so much cooler to show off to their friends in.

A while back I ran across an 82 Jeep CJ5 that looked like someone had just installed a crate engine into, body and running gear was in great shape, needed a new top, but was still functional. Of course nope can't buy anything once its on the lot , I would have brought it home in a heartbeat if I could have.
