This is just a quick post to say thanks to whomever compilied all the good parts compatability info and to say what a great site this is ! I used this section to take my 1986 90hp:icon_rofl: 2.3 up to a 137rwhp :headbang: 2.55L using 2.5 crank and a 2.3 block with the correct journal size and .040 overbore and to keep the swap simple we reworked the original head and added a DELTA CAMS reground cam !! All the haters said "Do a v8" or made fun but now with almost twice the power and even better fuel mileage I love my little RANGER :icon_thumby:

yes but I have to get them onto photobucket

You have 47 more hp doe doe. Not twice the HP.

Nice to hear you got it built though

Thanks for setin' me straight Duane ! I had no idea crankshaft hp and wheel hp were = and the word "almost " has no meaning . We all know 90 net crankshaft hp is close to 74 wheel hp so I was thinking 137 wheel hp on the dyno is "ALMOST" = to 74+74 (148) measured at the crankshaft in 1985 . The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) is the flightless bird -"doe" is a female deer . Anyway thanks for reading my post.

HA HA HA HA HA !! that was funny I don't care who your are LOL !
Well played sir. But still ridiculous on labor plus cost = gain basis.
You should have just boosted it or swapped a V8 in. Even a 4 liter.

Cool...sounds like something I might try...but I do think I'd throw in the forged pistons just in case I want to add turbo later...that's a pretty good gain~!

/\
Where were you when we were proding him ? LOL !

You are spot on on the cost thing -$1100.00 for less than 50hp is pretty stupid I admit but the thought of going back with a 2.3L just KILLED ME :icon_rofl: -It was like I was channeling TIM "The Tool Man" or something -It took 2 junkyard engines and the 1 in the truck to come up with that EXTRA .15 litres (how sick is that) :icon_confused: but now when I tell people "YEAH, we put in a new engine,it's a STROKER!":icon_thumby:

no, I used the stock crank from a 2.5L ($300.00 for junk yard engine threw rest away) then I went to Pull-a-Part for something and found a 1994 2.3 with the proper crank journal size and paid $85.00 for the engine and paid 2 hispanic guys who hang out and pull parts for lazy people like me $40 to pull it,kept block and oil pan and some small parts then threw that away, next day we(hell who am i kiddin!) I mean the techs pulled the 2.3 from the truck and we sent head, block and crank to a small machine shop in Tacoma where the guy was a wiz at PINTO RACE MOTORS! :yahoo: I got lucky ,he knew EXACTLY what we wanted -a cheap SOHC PINTO ENGINE- he picked out the cheap pistons and the right gasket sets and called the DELTA CAM people and picked a good grind -Let me say I love this little engine but it will NEVER have any BOOST or NOS or any other power adder if you copy this engine be happy with 135-150 wheel hp (I AM ) and enjoy the extra torque of a stroker. With the low speeds and low gears of wheelin this engine flat works and since we have to drive 40-60 miles one way to wheel around here the fuel economy that the higher compression and RV cam give are MOST welcome -some tips-find that damn 2.5L crank and rods FIRST,get an old school machinist that knows pinto engines ,at first i was going to change the injectors but my friend said that old design (1985) were on the "DIRTY" or rich side anyway so we reused all that stuff-this thing starts ,idles, and runs like a stocker but has a little more umph in the dirt -thanks for reading!:icon_thumby:

who was the engine guy? I live in sumner and I am looking for some one to help me do the same sort of thing. I was going to do a 4.6 swap but it will cost way more and I still want the mileage. also what cam did you go with. I got the 260 dur. with the .412 lift on intake and exhaust but I haven't put it in yet as I am still trying to get the weber carb I put on running good.

hmm....time to start collection parts for the spare 2.3 I have...

Thats cool, but I really think I would have put in a steel crank and forged pistons in case I wanted to boost it later. Then you would have already been more then half way there to start with if / when you did.
Because you will eventually boost it. Your already stroking, the next step will be boosting. Mark my words LOL !
