My rear end is grinding when I floor it like the pinion is skipping gears but this is what I found...

Is there suppose to be play in the axle shafts at all?

HELP PLEASE!

umm no...:shok: I think something is messed up with the backlash.

Grab the pinion flange where the drive shaft bolts on... how much slop does it have... in inches?

I don't see how backlash could cause that. It looks like the pinion gear is contacting the carrier. I can see how Floppy Pinion Syndrome could do that.

I think it's a dead or very loose pinion bearing. Take a GOOD look at both gears.

Both Gears look perfect. I had some work done on the rear end a few months ago. I think that is from before he fixed it, but still its pretty crazy!:icon_thumby: I found out that the grinding is comeing from my transfer case skipping gears:fie:. Time to start looking for a new one JOY!

As for the axle shaft play. I can push and pull each side in and out about 1/4 of an inch on each side.

It's normal for C-clip axleshafts to pull in and out a little.

Any other direction on the axleshafts or pinion flange is bad news.
