This past Saturday, I test drove an '05 Ranger Edge with the 3.0L and 5 speed. After I would shift into the next gear, the truck seemed like it had a miss. Is this normal because that's the main reason why I didn't buy this vehicle?

No, it's NOT normal, but it may be easily remedied, e.g. EGR, DPFE, a little MAF spray-cleaner, etc. How many MILES on this Ford question mark?

You would have to be more specific in what you mean by a "miss"...? Do you mean it kind of lurched/sputtered as you got back on the gas? Does it rev-up smoothly in neutral, but not under load?

At idle, make sure nothing LIQUID is coming from the tailpipe.

Bottom line: make it the seller's problem, not yours.
