I believe that my lust for keeping my old TV is finally coming to a crossroads. I have a Gateway 36" CRT TV that ONLY has a VGA input (yes it's a computer monitor...) which has never been a big deal because I've had a spare computer to use as a DVD player.

I got an XBox 360 a few days ago and ordered the VGA cord for it. I will be using a VGA switch so I can use it and the PC at the same time. The issue is the speakers - currently I have a 2.1 system that is plugged into the PC.

I am thinking about building a cord that consists of some adapters and gender changers, and a 3.5mm y-splitter so that I can hook BOTH the XBox and PC up to the same set of speakers at the same time with no switch.

I don't see a problem as long as only the PC or only the XBox is outputting sound... correct?

I don't think the output transistors will be overjoyed about the whole idea. I would put a switch.

Either use a muxer or a switch. The feedback could cause problems in either the player or the console.
You could place a diode into the wire, but then you cause other problems.

Why not just run the sound into the INPUT on the pc and use it as your mixer? Thats what I used to do:dunno:

Oh yeah, good call! Forgot that I could do that. Guess I was just making it too complicated. :D
