My buddy and his friend have a 302 and a D44 out of a '76 Bronco for sale that I would like to swap into my truck. Supposedly the 302 runs good but I have not heard it run and probably will not be able to since it's out of the truck. The D44 has 3.54 gears, disc brakes, and comes with radius arms, coils, etc.

They told me before that they want $150 for the motor and will figure out a price for the axle. Now they are saying $400 for both. To me the motor price is great, especially if it runs, but $250 for an axle that will probably need seals, brakes, regeared, new bushings, etc is way excessive since I could probably get a HP D44 and narrow it for around the same amount and have a better axle...

What do you guys think?

$400 is a lot for an engine of unknown condition, it could be in the same shape as the axle needing rebuilt.

My 289 was supposed to run good too, but it has a badly scored piston and a scored crank. The price was getting it and a also supposedly good C-4 out of his garage though...

I am not much of an authority on axles, but $400 sounds high for one with that high of gearing, is low pinion and needs seals and stuff.

$400 total for both, sorry. Should have worded that differently.

This guy claims to be your friend? Don't friends give friends good deals on stuff like this? Tell him $200 for both or you don't want to be his friend anymore.:icon_thumby:

Honestly, $400 would be fair for just the complete EB D44 with all the BS connected to it. I wouldnt be able to touch one out here for less than $700-$800. If you can get both for $400 I'd say youd be making out pretty well.

Wow :shok:

There are still a LOT of EB's out here and it is pretty easy to get parts for them if you know the right people. The friend that has this stuff has had at least 4 or so, his dad has one and has had a bunch of others, and there are a few other people around that have 10+ EB's in their yards. Personally I hate them but they are just such dang good swap material...

I have done a TON of work for him on his projects so he owes me...

Those prices are what I would charge a complete stranger. NOT a friend. I typically charge "friends" about what it costs me to break even on a deal. If it did not cost me anything or is part of the spare parts pile I usually give it away unless I need it. Friends dont try and turn a profit on a deal with another friend. Typically I trade with my friends because I hate taking there money. What goes around comes around.

Sounds good for around here. I've been looking for an EB D44 and can't find one anywhere. Put up a wanted ad today and guy offered me one for 600.

Sounds like a smokin deal for just the front axle. They are like gold up here if you can find one. Thats why I just went full width.

I do try and trade instead of money. It has always worked out really well but this time I don't have anything to trade him, unfortunately.

My bargaining chip here is a kingpin D60 and sterling that I can get for $600 total....I would totally jump on it but I don't want to be full width, don't want to narrow two axles, and I'd ruin my ground clearance with the sterling. Funny thing is the guy that has this stuff is a good friend of the guy who has the 44 and 302.
