my 94 a4ld was rebuilt at about 60k ago from what the paper work i found in the truck when i got it said. lately i have been driving the truck in drive instead of overdrive, since my truck seems to shift in overdrive at around 48 to 50mph, then when i get on the highway or drive at highway speeds for a long time i put in overdrive. my question is will this end up causing a failure or will it not bother it?

That is perfectly fine.

Exact same way I drive my 91 4.0L, only time I used OD is cruising on the highway.
