Hello everyone! I'm new here. Just acquired a 1998 Ford Ranger 2.5L 5spd. Great little truck.
I think i'm pretty sure i already know the answer but figured i'd confirm it here. Is this a non AC model?
The truck was given to me and while performing some maintenance, there doesn't seem to be a compressor present but figured I'd ask.
I've attached a picture of the engine compartment. Thanks ahead of time!

yep, non a/c. fan shroud also says “cooling system not equipped for a/c”. mine is like that too, they used the same power steering bracket for both ac & non ac models, you could mount a compressor and have onboard air source. I thought about it once but never did it.
Welcome to T.R.S!

Yep. The 1998 I had didn’t have A/C.

Didn't know you could actually get one without AC passed the 80s...

+1 ^^^^

All Rangers came with 2/60 AC from the factory

Roll down 2 windows and drive at 60MPH, 2/60 AC, and no extra cost for this option

Yup. I recently robbed a non-A/C heater plenum from a 93 at the junk yard.

Note of interest:
The 83-94 heat only box was noticeably different from the A/C box.
The 95+ heat only box looked almost identical to the A/C box, except the holes for the lines to the evaporator aren’t drilled.

Thank you all for the quick replies and confirming for me. I searched around for a AC DIY install but it seems to be a little too much of a process so I'll probably just be listing it for sale. I'd keep it but i really want the super cab and AC.

What do you think a fair price would be? It's a 98 Ford Ranger XL regular cab. 5spd. 136k miles, short bed. NO AC! lol.. New clutch about 3 years ago. Run's and drives great. Color is black and has a few ding's dent's. I also just replaced the blower resistor and am putting in a new bed liner.

They range from $500 to $5000 with little logic :), but probably in the $3k range private party. If rust free someone in the north might be looking for just that... I'm in Oregon and my '97 not having A/C doesn't really bother me, it bugs me that the blower box is giant and taking up valuable volume doing nothing but whatever...
