First off, I'm sorry if this was already discussed or is being discussed in another forum. I haven't been on in quite a while (since I sold my Ranger.)
I just went on Ford's website and they have the 2009 Ranger posted. The 3.0 isn't listed as an engine choice anymore! Only the 2.3 and the 4.0. Now, I realize the Vulcan is out of date and that the 2.3 makes almost as much horsepower, but I'm still sad to see it go. I always thought the 3.0 in my Ranger was a great engine.
Am I mistaken, or is the 3.0 almost done for production?

Wicked Sludge? Comments?

Vulcan 3.0 should be done for production. Ford's is replacing their entire line almost with the newer Duratech. The Colonge 4.0 should not be too far behind too.

Sorry about the repost. I checked the forums a little, but not good enough I guess. I feel like a noob who doesn't know how to use the search function. :annoyed:

a vulcan will outlast any cologne engine and wicked sludge will back me up on it (i hope)

i am starting to like the 3.0 more...but the only thing that i hate is that it makes all of its power ata high rpm.....and less torqu then the 2.9....and that made more at a lower rpm

According to Ford's website, it is no longer possible to get a SINGLE CAB RANGER WITH A V6......AT ALL. It is also impossible to purchase a single cab 4x4 ranger as well. Ford is determined to kill the ranger by making one idiotic move after another.

Personally I F*ckn hate the 3.0. I just love the cologne v6. Its the Rangers original engine shouldn't it die along with the ranger?

Last I heard, the 4.0 is supposed to be manufactured through 2010, atleast for use in the Mustang, although whether they will stay in the Ranger that long I am unsure of. The ranger is supposed to be in production atleast though 2011. I would like to see the new 3.5 V6 in the rangers.

That's a broad statement, and really just not correct. You don't know how long any will last by simply looking at it. I am sure there are 2.9Ls (there ARE some with 300K) that have definitely outlived your precious 3.0L. :hottubfun: Especially ones that had CPS failure at 100K and just ceased to work.

I don't know why you're so hell bent on that engine. I have a Tempo, but I know what I have, it's a piece of shit, but parts are cheap and it runs good. I don't go around declaring it's the best thing ever since it does what it is intended to.

My dad's Ranger had the 2.9 with almost 400K on the clock that he bought BRAND NEW. He traded it for his 01 Tundra that he has now.

We saw it out on the road recently. Probably still running like a champ.

Ah, memories in that thing. I got my license in it. Drove it back from the hospital when my dad had a surgery on his back. Hauled countless loads of firewood with it.

My personal favorite time: hauling a bed full of floor tiles, and attempting to stop for a person in front of us. Hit them, and only slightly dented the bumper on the Ranger, but fubarred the car ahead.

Sadly, this is the only full picture I have of it:

EDIT
Found one more picture of it in the background:

That was my grandpas S2000. Traded it for a Volkswagen.
