Is the Vulcan 3.0 gone forever?

my friend had a 93 with a 3.0 died at 650K

My shop just replaced a broken valve spring on an 01 with 86K. We're currently doing head gaskets on a 93 with a 156K. My friend just burnt a valve on his 03 with a 100K. So you know of one guy that managed to get one to last to 650K. Big deal. I've seen one "spark plug spitting" 5.4 go over 500k. What does that prove? How much of that motor is original? I see that you edited your original post to "and wicked sludge will back me up on it (i hope)" because you can't defend a statement that bold on your own. Nice try

engines come and engines go. the 3.0 is about as reliable as they come, but even later models of those werent without their flaws (CMP syncro). the only solace is that the CMP is easier to take care of (if you catch it) than the 2.9's cracked heads, 4.0's worn pushrods, or 4.0 SOHC's timing chains. and of coarse, pre-OBD2 3.0's are...well...flawless :tease:

278k on my 2.9, a friend of mine had to replace a 3.0 in his truck, it threw 2 rods through the oil pan at about 130k, his brother has a 3.0 powered ranger as well and it has been beat to piss and its over 200k and still going. Isn't the 3.0 one of the last pushrod engines that ford uses, the other two being the 4.2 and I believe the power stroke?

My dads 86 ranger has 315k on the 2.9 and we just had the clutch replaced, only because hes getting to old and lazy to put it in himself. It has the ORIGINAL clutch in it. Idk but i'm a believer in fords clutches lol, if you don't abuse it it will go very far. Of coarse this truck never saw mud but it has hauled many many heavy loads of firewood up the mountain since new.
