Hi guys I have my truck that i bought as a fixer upper so i can learn about the rangers... So far i got a parts truck with a standard that i am going to be rebuilding and converting my truck from auto to standard... as for the engine both trucks have 300000 KM on them... Im thinking that ill take the engine out of the parts truck and rebuild it. Im thinking that ill freshin up the engine and do some mods to it like port and polish the intake manifolds, mabe the 5.0 rockers if i can get some cheap and some other things... My question tho is it going to be worth it to put the money into an older 3.0... Im not asking this based on performance wise but reliability wise, will it make the engine last longer...

Thanks Dylan

Reliability wise I say go for it. These things are indestructible.

Take the thing apart (I suggest using a Haynes manual or the sort so you can give it a good overhaul), buy a higher performing camshaft, some roller rockers, maybe some newer valve springs, port and polish, and boom. You'll have a nice, peppy V6 if you do a good job.

If all of that costs too much money then a V8 swap would be nice, but seeing as you prefer reliability over performance stick with the 3.slow

a 5.0 is as reliable, maybe even a bit more than a 3.0.

A rebuild on the 3.0 would be much cheaper than an engine swap, and your plans will only help. It's nothing for a 3.0 to over 200,000 miles, so you should a rebuild, with your planned mods would be a nice, peppy little motor for a very long time!

ok thanks guys i think ill go for it... I have two motors so ill have one to keep her on the road and the other to rebuild and swap later in the summer.
