according to this i can stroke and blow my 3.0L and stroke a 4.0L but not blow it. or can i? any ways is it worth going to the 4.0L from a 3.0L? i am thinking of this cause my miles are adding up i got 270,000 mile on the original 3.0L and might be considering buying a short block set up with a stroker kit. that is capable of 500+ hp was thinking about a turbo 2.3T out of a super coupe how much can you really get out of a four cylinder? no replacement for displacement right? i know it will have more hp in the 4.0 and torque but with a supper and some nitrous on the 3.0L it will be big enough. i think i got the a4ld trans with the 7.5 inch rear end in it with 3.73:1 ratio gearing. but i do not think the a4ld "auto" will handle this kind of power so a manual trans will be needed? or is there a trans like the t5 found in mustangs etc..that will work? any ways thanks for any kind of reply you can give....

3.0 is garbage. get rid of it.

As for 4.0, it depends what you wanna get outta it. 500hp? not likely.

A well-built 4-cylinder can easily do over 300hp,(Hell, some drag Civics can put out 700+hp on 2.0l engines) but the more HP you produce, the shorter the lifespan on everything involved.

My understanding is a a4ld that is rebuilt properly can hold up behind 300hp or so, beyond that you start bending shafts or something... But thats on a fully rebuilt tranny, not a stock application.

ya i thought it was up wards of 1000-1500 hp from those civic's. i was also hearing about 1000hp from the cavalier/ sunfire ecotec's motors. the 2.2L and 2.4L of course those were expedition cars made special for gm and Honda.

any ways just weighting my options found a few 5.0 with out trans so that would be $500 for the motor. along with about $3 grand just to rebuild the motor. another $2,500 for the trans for the motor. for a grand total $6,000 just to throw it in my ride all that from craigslist and summit racing.

just found a 2.3T in a turbo coupe for $2500 on craigslist to bad it only had 179,000 miles on it and needed a rebuild. then there is the other one for $6,500 with 77,000 mile on the motor and trans.

damn life sucks to bad nothing is perfect!
maybe i will just slam it to the pavement and call it good with some air bags:icon_confused:

A v8 with nitrous will probably get you the most bang for the buck. If you can't find a 302 in your area I'll bet you can easily find a sbc, it's been done before. Can't believe I wrote that, let the flaming begin.

i thinking it too but to recondition some of the crap people are selling it get ridiculous i think they should call it ripofflist.org in stead of craigslist.org up here. it just the scams people are running here in Michigan to rip others off trying to find a good 5.0L is getting to be impossible. most have 100,000-300,000 mile on them and you got to rebuild it. cause i do not want to rip it out a month or two down the road cause of a leaking valve seal or piston rings. it just be comes a p.i.t.a. . just looking off the beaten path for motors is what i need to do. i wonder if the 2.0L ztec will fit lol's out of the focus??? etc etc ...

between the scams and rusted cars going for top dollar. then you get no ware cause every one uses kbb.com to price there cars which has had jacked up numbers for the last 10 years or so. but people don't care it use to be people would offer there cars at trade in value to others after going to the bank and finding blue book value for their auto having it apprised by a bank only cost $10-$20 instead they do it for free and say it in excellent condition and sell a $500 car for $5,000 it bs for every one up here. cause no one is selling good cars any more. hell i have been sitting on my 94 ranger for about 10 year now till i get a better truck. which is not going to happen it looks like so i should just make my 94 in to the pre-runner i want.. the 5.0L was to be a more powerful common swap motor. but with people scamming each other it be comes to hard. any ways sorry for the rant i got to do some thinking and looking to see what will fit and what is worth it .....

Putting the 4.0 in would require almost the same amount of work as swapping to a 5.0, so I wouldn't waste my time with that.

The 3.0 can be modded, but it's definitely not cheap.

Instead of looking for stand-alone engines, I'd start looking for donor vehicles. Around here, you can find running v8 explorers for $1000. Pull all of the parts you need from the donor, then sell the rest off.

with that year truck i would run a ls swap if i couldnt get lucky and find a stout 4.0 engine and transmission complete.. unless there are not any low mile 5.3 setups around either.

a hopped up 3.0 compared to a stock low mile 5.3 would be a bad joke.
