So whats your opinion guys on the good ol' hockey puck body lift? Ive heard they're too stiff or the can break. Also heard someone say that pucks can cause damage to the body of your truck. Anyone got a different material in mind for a 1" lift? Or is it safe to puck around?

i did the hockey puck lift on my old Tracker trail rig/dd. it did fine for the 3 years i owned it after the lift. no splits, chipping, cracking, etc with the pucks. no body mount damage at all. i road it pretty hard on the trails, and it still was used to get me to work and back. no driving issues at all. cheap and easy lift to be sure. others here will have different opinions, but that is mine from experience.
regular body lifts can be bought for your truck, and depending on where you live, you might want to consider replacing the original body mounts as well. here, where there is an annual freeze/thaw cycle, those rubber parts don't last as long as where the temps are more stable.
just my $.02.

Sounds pretty good strvger. Looks like you had some good luck with pucks made somewhere besides Canada too. I've had a body lift before, it was on my old truck. I hated it I hated it a lot. Only put it on there cause a motor swap was planned. Thats why on the truck I have now I only want to do a one inch lift. Just a little more clearance for 33's. Its a 2005 model so the mounts aren't in too bad of shape. But I can see your point about replacing them. So what did you do about the original hardware? Steering shaft was fine?

You can buy 1inch puck directly from PA's site. why chance it when they make the real ones.

Where on the site? I looked and looked and looked.

I think the main issue with pucks is when people go hog wild and start stacking them, and using long-ass bolts to compensate.

Yea thats what I was thinking. I dont think any lift over 1 puck is good. having a body mount and two pucks going through one bolt sounds sketchy to me.

steering, shifter, brake lines, etc. were all fine. i just got 1 1/2 inch longer stainless grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts at the local hardware store. those were more $ than the pucks! here where i live, regular zinc coated or anodized hardware rusts way too fast.
good luck with your project!

Yeah I think you should be fine with the pucks, I have had some on my truck for a little over a year now with no problems. Though I'm in the middle of removing it because the shifter for the manual t case I'm putting in is now too low. so if you have a manual shift t case i wouldn't or unless you plan to modify the shifter.

Thanks you guys for the info. I'll probably do it before my next tire change. I got a manual trans so I will be lengthening the shifter for the install. :icon_thumby:

With just the manual trans you really don't need it for just an inch. The only reason I am taking mine off is because I am putting in a manual shift t case and the shifter would just be a pain to mod.

Yea but I wouldnt really for an inch. Ive been thinking about lifting it an inch or two without a body lift. Tranny shifters seem too low in trucks for me.
