i could have sworn i saw a post with someone that gutted a dana 35 ttb setup and ran it 2wd??

correct me if im wrong

just remove the u-joints and leave the stub shaft in the knuckle

To keep the grease IN and the dirt OUT, which would not be the case
if you left a 1-1/4" HOLE in the back side...

The 2wd BIIs used a gutted 4wd front end from the factory. They used a freeze plug in the inner end of the spindle to keep the dirt out. They also had a transfer case with No front output and a plug in it's place.

I thought they still used the 2wd I beams on the B2's...

So it had 4x4 beams without a pig bolted to it?

This sure looks different to me...

Rangers has specific 2wd front ends both cast iron and steel depending on the year/model. All BIIs were 4wd based. At least every one I've seen.

That picture is of a 2wd B2 front end.

I knew they had a dummy case.

Every 2wd BII I've seen had an empty D28 housing in front. There may be differences between west coast and east coast Rangers as there was in Pintos. Every time this discussion came up before there was no discrepancy.

Well It's been about 15 years since I worked on a 2wd BII. If I see one, I'll take a pic.

so could i gut my dana 35 since my trannys has a 2wd output shaft, im changing over the front end later but i want the front lighter now.

4by ranger, "yes" you could gut the 4wd diff out of the beam, BUT your going to bend/fold the beam (diff side)then with any hard use.So in other words don't do it.unless you want to plate the 4wd beam in.Or untill you get a equal lenth kit under the truck.

back in the early days from,f150;'s starting in 82,ranger fromt birth, and the B2's from birth had a "boxed" beam built alot like the 4wd beams, just with out the diff "cover" buit in to them. this was till about 84.5-85, then all 2wd beams went to forged atleast on the ranger and f150. The b2's I cant say I ever rember seeing a "Forged" beam that was as "tall" as the 4wd beam. But I have seen the 89-91 b2 2wd beams there were tall, like the explorer 2wd in "cast"
