is any of this really worth it?


Depends on what you want. $50+ per horsepower may be worth it to you, but may not be to someone else. There is no definate answer to your question.

please don't just say for that price you can swap in a 4.0 or a 302.

Excuse me but you don't get to ask us for that, because for the price of the stroker kit you could probably BUY a used Ranger with a 4.0 or a 4.0SOHC
already in it.

Swappng in a 4.0 IS likely far cheaper and the stroker does NOTHING about the poorly designed valvelifters that trap crap and don't bleed themselves of air or the cracking head issues.

Even the BEST 2.9 heads crack more often than 4.0 heads.

For the $3500 price tag on the 4.0 stroker kit I could build a steel crank rollercam 351 with aluminum heads
