Is aircraft stripper safe for tires and valve stems?

... or do I have to tape them off? Anyone have experience with this stuff to remove Ford clearcoat from factory aluminum wheels?

I would definately tape them off against direct contact, but a little getting on either isn't going to melt them, just degrade the rubber a little. Do it one wheel at a time, and hose it off when you're done.

I would take the tires off. I have seen what that stuff can do and it will take that clear coat off and more. Just my .02 worth

Man dont do it like me..I done it on a spare wheel for my racecar and it actually started melting the tired i wiped it off pretty fast and it made an indention in it.

If you plan to paint rims with tires installed, you are going to end up with such a crappy result that I wouldn't even bother stripping. Sand the whole surface you plan to paint and paint. Yes, mask off. Stripper is caustic.

Besides appearance, the reason for painting rims is to remove corrosion. You really want to pay a LOT of attention to the sealing surfaces (beads and stem bore). Anything less is half fast.
