I'm putting a 351W in my 85 BII and need to beef up the front diff. I've read about the Dana 35 swap, but no one has enough detail about wether i can just bolt it in and get a shorter driveshaft or if i need to replace the whole front Twin Beam. I'd like to be able to just unbolt the 28 and junk it and bolt the 35 in it's place and call it a day.

Anyone have more info :icon_confused:

The whole axle is a direct bolt-in and it's very easy. If you're about 6 or more inches or lift you may not need a shorter drive-shaft. Or if you swap in the t-case from the truck the D35 came from you won't.

direct bolt in except for the driveshaft

at 6" of lift or so i didn't need to shorten it, but it was very close to needing it

lower than that, and i'd expect that it's necessary

only other concern is whether the gears match the rear

The weakest part of a dana 28 isn't the gears it's the outboard axles and u-joints.So it's not that you have to change the whole thing it's you get to change the whole thing.

Thanks guys, I actually found a driveshaft from a 93 jeep grand cherokee that is adjustable, i think it's called a "D sleeve"? I just had to go to the parts store to play around with some U-joints and it actually lines up well... Surprisingly, Nothing on this truck has qgone together without a fight. it's like it doesn't want new life lol

Oh i forgot to tell you i'm hooking up the 351 with a C6 and NP205 transfer case from an old ford F100 with an explorer 8.8 rearend

Throw a tape measure on that drive train front pulley end of transfer case on the f-150.Then go and measure the one in the B2.Then minus the difference on your drive train out of your drive line length.I had a 95 f-150 and the drive train made the drive shaft to short.
