Is there any place on here that talks about this kind of a conversion...

All I'm finding so far is that the front cross member out of the 4WD is the short poll in the tent...any other references or builds on TRS....?

Contemplating doing this mod...

:icon_rofl:

it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a 4wd truck theres so much that goes into a 4wd conversion

Use the search function, Bro. Many post on it. It can be done but you need to know a lot about it to do it and have welding skills. Some people say just buy a 4x4 but others have done it and the trucks came out very good.

Ive thought about doing it with a front axle from another ranger. From what i found out though SAS is the better option

if i was to take a 2wd ranger to make it 4wd, i'd do a custom sas, i wouldn't use a ranger setup at all. d44 high pinion.

actually, a 2wd might be an easier conversion for a sas than a 4wd... less stuff to take off for the new stuff to fit.

I have done a 2wd to 4wd ttb conversion and a solid axle swap on a 2wd and a 4wd. For me, the 4wd solid axle swap was easier cause the engine crossmember already had the cutout for the differential. On the 2wd SAS I had to cut out a lot of the crossmember.

Anyways, I recommend a solid axle swap on any 2wd ranger no matter what year.

depends on the year , if your talking about doing this on a 1983-1997 2wd then yes you can do a 4wd conversion with stock 4wd ranger parts , the worse of this is you will be required to pull your engine to get at the crossmember , you will then need to weld and bolt the 4wd crossmember in or have a friend weld it for you , however you'll be limted in your off roading abilitys , or you can do a custom SAS , if you have a 1998-2012 2wd ranger then you pretty much only have the option of a custom SAS swap , if you plan to do a SAS you might want to check out escort_gts http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105470 and dangerranger83s http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92330 build threads in the (RBVs under construction) section they both have done great jobs on they're swaps and should give you a good idea of whats involved in a SAS

I was thinking about doing this to mine since its an edge...but realized it would be easier to just buy a new truck

Yeah I know haha but I don't have the tools or the know how to do anything like that

When I first started, I had no idea what I was doing. And look now at what I have accomplished.

I understand that...but technically its my parent's truck and they would never let me dig into it that much.
