Hi, I have never owned a Ranger before but am looking to purchase one. I have found a 1987 Ford Ranger 4x4 ext cab 5 speed Eddie Bauer edition. It is in good shape but the asking price is $3000.00. I was wondering if this is a good year for the Ranger? Is the asking price to high? How many 87 Eddie Bauer editions did they make? Thank you all for the help. I hope I post this in the right section.

any ranger is worth owning :P

but seriously IMO 3,000 dollars is way too much for a 22 year old truck. unless its sweet, like has a lift, tires/rims/sound system/and good body/paint.

^^ i agree^^3000 is a little high in my opinion, but 87 is a great year for rangers. as for how many were eddie bauer edition, dont know. make sure you look it over real, real good for rust in critical areas and go from there. i woulnt want to pay any over 2500 for it.

If its in good shape and well optioned, I might consider paying 3k for it. I have an 87 XLT that is in good shape, not perfect, but very good for its age, I paid 2k 8 years ago.

Same x-cab, 4x4 5 speed as the one your looking at.

If it is in good shape, and its something that you plan to use and keep for a long time, you might still be able to get your money out of it at 3k, but I'd still try to talk him down a few hundred.

Uhh...i'd be looking into that a little more before the big buy. While I DO agree that ANY RBV is worth owning;

A) There was never any such thing as an Eddie Bauer Ranger. I've looked..and the only Eddie in '87 is the Bronco

and

B) I bought my '99 Eddie Explorer for the same price as that. So unless it's only got like 500 miles on it, the owner is taking you for a ride.

Make sure you do your research. Coming here and asking questions is definitely a good start :D

Good luck dude :icon_thumby:

I don't have any pics at the moment. It has power windows and doors. A 4 inch suspension lift. Alarm system. Rally Rims with 33's on them. Nice paint job with no rust. Great interior. rear slider. 160,000 and it is a stick. I cant find any other 87 Eddie Bauer's tho.

Ok...i'd bite on that one. Sounds like a fun toy for the price.

Again...only Eddie's out there in '87 were the bronco's. I've already looked it up on Google. Google is my friend :D :icon_twisted:

I agree, not aware of the existence of an Eddie Bauer Ranger, so just base it's value on a regular Ranger with similar equipment. I also agree that $3k is kinda high. I'd say $2500 max, unless the lift is a good quality kit like SJ, the 33's are name brand with plenty of life left in them and the engine is in perfect running order.

Agreed.

Do you think that they switched the dash? Because if i can figure out how to post the pics It is an Eddie dash.

I do have to say my opinion might be somewhat skewed, I have 8-out-of-10 '90 and a 6-out-of-10 '89 Bronco II's with a combined total of $1500 invested. Still stock though.

There was an EB Bronco II that the dash would have been a direct replacement with. Been a while since I've seen a pre 88 interior but it may even be as easy as an emblem swap. What colors are the truck and interior?

Sounds a bit high, but prices vary by region. I strongly advise that you run a Carfax or Autocheck before buying, if you're serious. I just bought a 99 XLT Supercab after looking at, and running Autocheck on, a dozen or more. Avoided several that had very questionable or known damaged histories.

Shoot me the VIN and I'll run it for you gratis. I bought a 2 month unlimited Autocheck account and still have a few weeks left. Include your email and I can forward the full report to you.
