Is a 1987 Ranger worth buying?

do the seats look like this? The pine tree graphic seat was almost a defining feature in the EB vehicles up until they started using leather upholstery.

I'm thinking it's an XLT with an EB badge stuck on the dash...take a look at this pic, the EB logo looks to be formed into the dash panel rather than the metallic badge.

even still, it's a clean looking truck.

The way the body looks like it has no rust to speak of. That in itself makes it worth the 3000. The pics show it to be one sweet older truck. I for one can let you have my 85 for $5000! interested?

Double check the tire size, there is no way those are 33"s. They would never fit with only 4 inches of lift. unless it has a body lift too?

i agree, either those are 31's max or there's some body lift there that we don't know about.

I appreciate the offer to sell me your truck but I can barely afford $3000.lol. That is why I am asking you guys if it is worth that much. Thank you tho.
It has a 4 inch skyjacker lift but not sure about the body lift tho. I will ask about the body lift and inform you all about it tomorrow night. I am trying to decide if it is worth driving 8 hours away to see if it aint worth it.

I agree that this is probably a de/re-badged XLT. There has never been an EB Ranger as far as I know.

check cab corners, wheel arches, other known spots for rust.

listen for any weird noises when starting (start it cold if you can), any weird noises while running.

pull codes if you can

carfax
ask for a maintenance log if they have one
check frame and underbody for rust and what not

get brands on all the add ons (sound system, wheels, tires, lift, any after market parts)

if it's a drop in bed liner, check underneath it.

lots of stuff u can do for free...

oh and it's worth driving to see it... but i'd get some more advice on here first as well. obviously you want to see it before you commit to buying it.

Ok, So what is the difference in the Eddie Bauer and the Xlt trim package? So I can tell the guy what is not original and what may have been changed

My 87 XLT has supercab, V6, 4x4, vinyl interior, rear slider and manual everything. also had the 7 spoke steel silver and black painted rims with 205/75/15s, and 3.45 gears. I do not have A/C.

I really don't know what on that list is part of the XLT package and what was just options.
EB editions usually just get options fancier than what was available for the XLT and usually a color not available on another version (IE my the new EB explorers are the only ones that come in Dark Cherry Red).

Looks like this one already has a lot of options that mine doesn't

Ok, because the one I am looking at has supercab, 4x4, v6, cloth seats , power locks and doors, A/C and rear slider. Yea i think i need to find a package and option list for both. lol. this is harder than I expected.

just buy it dude. it looks like its in great shape, nice options, if it runs and the body isn't falling apart, grab it up. Those old rangers never die, and never get stuck

Differences between my '90 XLT Bronco II and my '89 EB Bronco II:

1. EB has bucket seats with integral headrests and a center console - XLT has a 60/40 bench

2. EB has rear window wiper and defroster (wouldn't be applicable on a Ranger). Pretty sure these options were still available on the XLT, mine just doesn't have them.

Other than the colors, those are the ONLY differences between the two. That's usually pretty typical for any EB vehicle, whether it be Explorer, Expedition, Aerostar, etc. is the EB usually has nicer seats and exclusive paint colors (usually two-tone).

I would definitely make the drive to check it out. Looks like a good solid rig to me. I'd offer the guy $2500 first though (after doing a real thorough look over and a carfax). It's a great looking truck in my opinion. Love the color.
