Hey guys I was wondering if you could tell me if the electric shift borgwarner 1354 transfer case is the same on all models. If I buy one that was on a 4.0 liter automatic ranger, will it fit my 3.0 liter standard? I would imagine that there is no difference...

There is an internal difference on some of the later models, but it would have NO effect on what you want to know.

Thought I would throw that out there.

Indeed... Thinking of getting mine rebuilt or buying a used one online, what do you guys think the best option is? I already had it worked on once, but the morons didn't fix it fully. My four low is all stripped out still, and that is what I use the most.

Unless it is run low on fluid there is not much that typically goes wrong with them.

I would try my luck at a pick-n-pull. Most likely cheaper than a rebuild.

I bought my manual 1350 from a junkyard sight unseen and have put about 20K on it so far without issues.

I agree. Most people never use the transfer case.

Find an exploder that once had an A4LD and the odds are that someone has already pulled the transfer case for you.

A pull-yer-own will sell these for $100. You can barely get the seals alone replaced for $100. Not AT ALL worth rebuilding, no matter how minor the problem.

I reckon you are right Jspafford and MAKG. Most people never use the four wheel drive so If I can find a lower mileage one in a junkyard then it would be good. Rangers in junkyards are very scarce in Southern NM though.

I wouldn't bother with low mileage. These transfer cases routinely outlast the vehicles they are in.

Some of the guys on this board have over 300,000 miles. The transfer case is not at all the weak link. Not even close.

yep, infact the transfer case from my old ranger is still going stron to this day, it had 327k miles when pulled from my truck(aobut 100k worth of me beatin on it and wheelin it every weekend) and has gotten another 50k in my buddys ranger still tickin strong every day

Of course I ain't looking for one with 1,000 miles on it, but if there is a selection I will go for the least mileage as long as it seems in good condition.
