I bought a third gen iPod touch 32 gb. iTunes does not work on Ubuntu but there are other ways to load music. The ways to load only 1 works but is unable to mount the correct area. Any ideas and please do say 'If you had windows it would just work' either.

Should I now think that the "Linux does everything" party line isn't as true as Linux true believers try to make the rest of us believe?

Sorry, I was already certain of it...

I won't say what you asked us to not say (I'll think it to myself however...)

have you tried using WINE in ubuntu to install itunes? That's all I have to offer, gaming keeps me away from Linux but alot of people use WINE to get win apps to run in Linux.

iTunes doe not work with Wine. I have the setup file and it will not execute. I read over on Ubuntu forums that it is bc it is primarily due to Apple's bull shit.

AllanD - I know what your thinking. I got tired of Windows all together and refuse to use the Mac OS.

Just don't be thinking that I was going to recommend anything made by Apple.

To me there is no Mac that wouldn't be improved by a long soak in salted Holy Water

I upgraded my OS to Ubuntu 10.10. Now everything is grazy. Linux, it just works. :icon_thumby:

I was gonna say, I've never had issues with my iPhone 3g and ubuntu, it worked just by plugging it in.

I really don't know much about transferring file to iPod Touchs. All I know is the reason it's really hard to make it work is that the Touchs do not have a Mass Storage Class mode which is what Linux relies on to transfer files to devices connected to the computer.

could you not dual boot your HD to run windows and ubuntu? that's what my bro was doing on his laptop for the longest time.. not a simply fix- but i know nothing about ubuntu so....

I was going to originally dual boot but I did not have the patience for Windows any more.

Hahahaha I can understand that..
My bro did it bc he needed windows or Mac for some of his school stuff. He couldn't get unbuntu to work on his school stuff sometimes. That's the only time he used windows.

I don't know if it has a linux port but I use Media Monkey. If you don't use the iTunes shopping network, media monkey does everything else iTunes does but better, ie sorting and converting your music collection between HDD and iTouch, or any portable media.
